WELCOME TO YOUR CLASS VERTEBRATE REVIEW...

What is this?

These pages will be created by you and your classmates in order to review for the vertebrate test. Each group will be assigned one of the classes of vertebrates to research and summarize. Your group will be responsible for all of the pertinent information on your class of organisms and although most of the lecture I presented was general in nature and meant to apply broadly to the entire class, you are encouraged to seek out specific examples to support those broad concepts. For example, in reptiles we discussed the difference in the heart and circulatory system of crocodiles. You will be expected to elaborate on those differences, providing comparison between other reptiles and the crocodiles.

How will I do this?

Use the navigation box to the right of the notebook to move to the page you have been assigned. In the upper right hand corner is a pencil and "edit" symbol. When you click on this, a text box with a toolbar will appear at the top. Use this toolbar to create and edit your page. You will be required to include specific elements on your page. Pay attention to Mrs. Perry's direction on how to embed videos, create table of contents and link references. You are encouraged to do your text editing in MS Word (please use Arial size 12 font) and then paste the text. Do all of your inserting, embedding, linking, references etc. next and all of the text formatting (color, style, font size) last.

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT YOU MUST HAVE A WORKING DRAFT OF ALL FIVE PARTS OF YOUR PAGE COMPLETED AND POSTED BEFORE THE END OF THE DAY ON WEDNESDAY. THIS WILL REQUIRE YOU TO SPLIT UP THE WORK TO SAVE TIME.

The Required Elements...

The required elements are found in the column of the rubric titled, "3 - Proficient". This can be compared to a B-average on the assignment. To obtain a better grade, complete the additional requirements in the "4 - Exemplary" column.

The Top Ten List	Create a memorization technique to help others remember the important facts.	List the top ten most distinguishing or important facts to know about your class of organisms. Be specific and explain your facts.	Less than ten facts included OR facts are not specific to the class being studied.	Less than ten facts included AND facts are not specific to the class being studied.
Anatomy	The glossary terms are referenced with footnotes at the bottom of the page using the widget tool in the wiki.	Create a glossary of a minimum of 5 terms that specifically relate to the anatomy of the organisms in your class. Your definitions must be in your own words and in complete sentences / paragraphs.	Less than 5 terms are included OR the terms are generic to most vertebrates OR the definitions are "book" definitions that don't clearly explain the term.	Less than 5 terms are included AND/OR the terms are generic to most vertebrates AND/OR the definitions are "book" definitions that don't clearly explain the term.
Images	The images are referenced in footnotes rather than in captions.	Include a minimum of 2 images showing the labeled anatomy. One should be internal anatomy and the other should be external anatomy. If the image is not from a creative commons source (and therefore is copyright protected) you must include the source web address as a caption. (HINT: When using outside images, right click on the image, choose "copy image location" and then come into the editor on your page and click the "file" button, click the "external image" button and follow the remaining directions to insert a the picture.) Wisconsin Links	The specimens are from 5 different orders OR a minimum of 3 specimens are local to our region of Northern Wisconsin	Include an informational section on Wisconsin examples of your class of organisms. You must include a minimum of 5 species from at least 2 different orders in your class. Please include the common name, scientific name and order of the organisms in addition to a few details about the organism's range, habitat and characteristics.	Less than 5 organisms are discussed OR the organisms are all from the same order OR not all features are included. Additional Info	Include 2 of the 3 possible topics.	Include a final section on your class of organisms. Please choose from one of the following: 1. Frequently Asked Questions 2. Little Did You Know... 3. Amazing Animal Adaptations Which ever you choose, you must include a minimum of 5 questions/facts/adaptations and explain each.
